Organisational Context

The West Vic Division of General Practice is a Commonwealth funded general practice organisation that improves the health of the community through recruitment and retention of GPs, promotion of best practice systems, integration of general practice with other health services and the promotion of health in the wider community. The Division also undertakes a range of projects funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services to enhance the health of the community in response to local needs. A locally elected Board of Management, representing 81 General Practitioners, oversees the strategic management of the Division. The organisation currently employs twenty-four staff located in offices in Ararat, Horsham, Maryborough and Nhill.

The West Vic Division covers 62,500 square kilometres with a population of 77,841. The Division’s region stretches east west, from Maryborough (outside Ballarat) to the South Australian border and north-south from the Mallee to the Otways. The Division includes numerous small towns and four small rural cities: Ararat, Horsham, Maryborough and Stawell.

The Division has obtained accreditation through Quality Improvement & Community Services Accreditation (QICSA).
